For your apartment or house, we put in new locks, change the keys on the lock you have, and repair the one that is giving you trouble.
What are the usual reasons people call?
- New apartment, and nobody can say how many old keys are out there.
- Someone moved out and kept a set.
- The key has to be wiggled before it turns.
- The knob is loose or the latch will not catch.
- A set of keys is gone for good.
What locks are on most doors around here?
Most old Bronx apartment doors have a mortise lock, the kind with one tall plate, a key cylinder at the top, and a knob under it. It is a plain, ordinary lock, and we know it well. We also handle deadbolts and the locks on house doors.
New lock or new keys?
When the lock itself is fine, changing the pins inside is all you need, and the old keys stop working. When it is worn out, we put in a new one sized for the same opening in your door.
How does the job go?
Tell us about the door on the phone, or text us a picture of it, and we give you a written quote before any work starts. We do the work, then you try the lock and the keys yourself before we leave.
Common questions
How many keys do I get?
Tell us how many you want. You can always bring a key to our shop inside Tejada Hardware and get more copies there.
I rent. Can I change my own lock?
Read your lease first. A lot of buildings want a copy of the new key on file with the super or landlord.
Can you add a second lock?
Yes. We can add a deadbolt above the lock you have, if the door and the frame can take it.
