Bring us the lock that sticks or quit working. If it can be repaired, we say so. If it cannot, we change it.
What are the signs of a lock going bad?
- The key only turns when you lean on the door.
- The whole cylinder moves when the key turns.
- The knob hangs low or comes off in your hand.
- The door closes but the latch does not go in.
- The key gets harder to pull out each week.
Is it the lock or the door?
Sometimes the lock is fine and the door has dropped on its hinges, so the latch no longer lines up. We check that first, because moving the door or the strike may solve it with no new parts.
Do the new locks fit old doors?
Generally, yes. We pick a lock for the opening that is already cut in the door. If the old plate was larger, the paint can show a faint shape around the new one.
How does the job go?
Tell us about the door on the phone, or text us a picture of it, and we give you a written quote before any work starts. We do the work, then you try the lock and the keys yourself before we leave.
Common questions
Can you repair a lock this old?
Often. The common parts come with us. For something unusual, text us a picture first and we look for the part.
What happens to my old lock?
We can leave it with you or take it away. Whichever you like.
Can the new lock use my old key?
Usually we set up new keys. If you need a new lock to match keys you already carry, tell us before we start.
