A high security cylinder goes into the lock on your door and uses a key that an ordinary shop cannot copy.
How is it different from a regular lock?
The difference is in the cylinder and the key. The key has a more complicated cut, and copies are usually made only by a dealer, with a card or with your approval. That way you know how many keys exist.
Who usually asks for one?
- People on a ground floor or with a side entrance.
- Shop owners, for the front and the back door.
- Supers, for the roof and the basement.
- Anyone who has been through a break-in and wants a change.
Do I have to replace the whole lock?
Usually not. A mortise lock in good shape can take a new cylinder, and the plate and the knob stay on the door. If you have only a knob lock, we can add a deadbolt with a high security cylinder above it.
How does the job go?
Tell us about the door on the phone, or text us a picture of it, and we give you a written quote before any work starts. We do the work, then you try the lock and the keys yourself before we leave.
Common questions
Can you make copies at your shop?
It depends on the key. Restricted keys are made only for the person on record. Ask us when you order.
Can it match my other door?
Yes. We can set two cylinders to the same key, so you carry just one.
Which makers do you carry?
Call us and tell us about the door, and we will go over what we have for it.
